A great way to raise maximum funds for the cause (charity:water) is to have a raffle so that’s exactly what will take place at Vancouver’s Twestival event on February 12th. After putting the word out on Twitter this afternoon I instantly received half a dozen prize donation offers, which is outstanding.

Actually, why not make it a silent auction? I’d spend way more on that, bidding for things I really want (and you have some great prizes already) than I would on raffle tickets. Also, the friendly competition adds good buzz to the event atmosphere.
Well done on the prizes so far - looking forward to more details on the event!
I was thinking we would do the type of raffle where you can purchase tickets then drop them in the box in front of the item you’d like the most (put 5 in for one, and 2 in for another to better your chances on something you really want). But yes, we have been thinking about a silent auction as well
Please follow me on Twitter or email me as I’d like to sponsor a prize!
Thanks.

Hard to be certain which type of auction will raise the most money.
If you run a silent auction you might get someone wanting to make a grand gesture & bidding a very large amount.
On the other hand a “buy 10 tickets, put your name on them & put them in the boxes” type raffle lets everyone get involved. Everyone will feel they’ve contributed - you get a little bit of money from everyone instead of larger amounts of money from just 20 people.
Maybe there’s something to be said for running a silent auction for just one or two larger items where you’d probably get more money for them from a single bidder than you would from the tickets that would go into their raffle box.
